Donor Area White Dots are tiny white micro-dots that remain in the donor area after FUE hair transplantation. These minute hypopigmented scars, typically measuring between 0.5 mm and 1 mm in diameter, represent the body's natural response to the extraction of follicular units. The number of such visible dots directly correlates with the number of grafts extracted, meaning a procedure yielding 3000 grafts will invariably create 3000 extraction sites, each with the potential to heal into a white dot. While often imperceptible to the casual observer, especially in individuals with lighter skin tones or longer hair, they become more apparent when the hair in the donor region is shaved very short, typically below a grade 1 clipper setting (less than 3mm).
The formation of these white dots is an inherent consequence of the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) method. During FUE, individual follicular units are surgically removed using a micro-punch tool. This process creates a small, circular wound.
