Turkey vs Italy Hair Transplant: Costs, Travel & Aftercare (2026)
Italian surgeons usually price per follicular unit, roughly €4–5.50 per graft at the clinics we checked, with separate consultation fees. Turkey is often cheaper per graft but adds a 2.5–3 hour flight and a 3-night stay. Compare sourced Italian price lists, travel plans and the post-operative timeline.

Compare the treatment plan, not just the country.
Turkey can be a suitable option if the named team, donor plan, written price and follow-up meet your needs. Local treatment may be preferable when travel or access to in-person reviews is difficult. Obtain equivalent personalised quotes before deciding; neither the country nor the lowest price predicts your result.

Flight, clinic stay and recovery timeline from Italy
A typical 3-night plan. Your clinic's written instructions and the clinician's fitness-to-fly decision come first.
- Flight
- Rome (FCO) and Milan (MXP) have direct flights to Istanbul of roughly 2.5–3 hours; other Italian cities often connect. Keep the return date flexible.
- Day 1
- Arrival, transfer, tests and consultation; confirm graft plan and the operating clinician in writing.
- Day 2
- Procedure day; rest at the hotel and sleep with the head raised.
- Day 3
- Check-up and first wash; collect medicines, aftercare instructions and the operation record.
- Day 4
- Return flight once the clinician confirms fitness to travel.
- Months 1–12 in Italy
- Scabs clear by about day 14, shock loss in weeks 2–6, growth from months 3–4 and a clearer result at 12 months. Agree remote reviews and a local contact before you go.
All-inclusive: what is actually included?
Total budget = written treatment price + items not included + a contingency reserve. Do not count included hotel nights or transfers twice. No flight, hotel or medicine is assumed to be included.

Before signing or booking a flight
- Who performs extraction, recipient-site creation and implantation? Check the named clinician and the facility's authorisation.
- Who confirms first wash, discharge, fitness to fly and return to work for your case? Neither a sales itinerary nor a fixed stay guarantees medical readiness.
- Who provides urgent and routine care after you return, in what language, and at whose expense? Get revision, cancellation and refund terms in writing.
Per-unit pricing in Italy and what it includes
The Italian clinics we checked publish per-unit prices rather than packages: Insalaco Clinic lists €4.50 per unit for a shaved transplant (first 2,000) and €5.50 for long hair, and Dott. Piero Tesauro lists €4 per unit for the first 2,000 with one year of follow-up included. Consultation fees of €250 or more are charged separately.
A 2,500-graft plan therefore looks very different depending on shaving, minimum surcharges and whether follow-up is included. Ask the Turkish provider to quote the same graft range and shaving approach, and add flights and extra nights before comparing totals.
Checking the surgeon and planning follow-up from Italy
In Italy, confirm the surgeon through the national medical register (FNOMCeO). For Turkey, ask for the clinician's name, the facility's authorisation and who performs each stage of the procedure.
Short flights make a return visit more realistic than from farther countries, but it is still an extra trip. Agree in writing how photo reviews work, who answers urgent questions and whether a return visit or local review is covered.
FAQ
Is Turkey always cheaper than Italy?
Not necessarily. Compare current written quotes for the same graft plan and include uncovered travel, accommodation, follow-up and payment charges. Advertised starting prices do not establish your total.
Are flights, hotel and transfers included?
Only when your written clinic quote lists them. Check dates, number of nights, room occupancy, airport route and extra-night charges. Flights must not be assumed to be included.
How soon can I travel home?
Ask the treating clinician to confirm your discharge and travel plan for your circumstances. A booking itinerary is not medical clearance to fly.
Do these prices represent the national average?
No. They are identifiable published clinic examples with different methods and inclusions. Request a current personalised quote; our Turkey table uses the directory's stored indicative ranges.
